Welcome to Dynamic Campus’ Blog Site

Welcome to Dynamic Campus’ Blog SiteTo Blog or not to Blog – that certainly is a question we have asked ourselves when considering the launch of the Dynamic Campus blog. Now that we have decided to move forward and launch our blog, we invite you join the Dynamic Campus team as we embark into the world of blogging…

Inaugural Blog – Andrea Savas
Sure I know what a blog is, after all it’s not a new concept and working in the technology field it’s a term I have heard many times, but never gave much thought about what was involved in starting and maintaining a blog. So here I am preparing to write my first blog, launching the first ever Dynamic Campus blog and realized that I really should educate myself a bit more on the art of blogging. So as I embark on this journey I will begin to share with you what I have discovered as well as what I hope to accomplish.

What I have discovered is that blogging has exploded, many of you reading this might be thinking what rock have you been hiding under for the past 12 months? I freely admit that I have been wrapped up in other areas of technology, career, day to day tasks etc to really step out and explore blogging, so bear with me as I share with you my amazement at the number of blogs I am discovering on the web today. I think there are literally a gazillion blogging topics out there, well maybe not a gazillion, but when I Googled “blogs” there were 702,000, results!

So what types of blogs are out there? I started to just search those topics that interested me and my immediate family and I have yet to find a topic that does not have a blog. I even found a blog site titled Cooking for Engineers! Since I am married to an Engineer who just recently started to cook, I was intrigued - catchy tag line – “Have an analytical mind? Like to Cook? This is the site to read”. What really concerned me is that the site has an entire section on Equipment and Gear; my kitchen cabinets are bursting at the seams, could there possible be more Amazon.com deliveries in my kitchen’s future?

There are professional blogging sites and professional bloggers, blogging teams and even ads for professional bloggers. All you need is the ability to communicate effectively in writing and a specific area of interest or want to share your point of view.

What I also discovered is that there are all sorts of things to consider when beginning to blog, for example what are you going to blog about, who is your audience? What topics are you going to blog about? Do you have enough content? Will it be interesting? Interesting to others? Well you can imagine my concern now, what will we (Dynamic Campus) blog about?

Dynamic Campus is a technology advocate and services provider for institutions of higher education, so we will provide our clients, partners, and readers with different ideas or areas of interest that relate to technology in higher education.

How are Colleges and Universities using blogs today? Many are utilizing them to share student experiences. First year students are providing online diaries of their college life highs and lows. They are able to share with friends and family how they are coping with the adjustment of being away from home and managing their independence, school schedules, and educational experience. This provides the institution with insight into how their students are adjusting and also provides a sense of community that can be shared with other enrolled students and prospective students.

Some College Presidents are utilizing blogs to communicate and share information with students, faculty and staff. This creates a great sense of community and shows a personal side of the institution’s leadership. Other schools have blog sites that have a variety of topics written by faculty, staff and students providing an online community in a virtual world.

So welcome to our blog site and we encourage you to stop in on a regular basis to review and participate in our higher education technology blogging community.
